Visit Algarve

Where is the Algarve?

The Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal, being the most important tourist region of the country and one of the most important in Europe.

The climate is pleasant with mild winters and long, hot, dry summers. The shoreline which is fine white sand, bordered by golden cliffs, stretches along the extensive Algarve coast. The sea which is all shades of blue with crystal waters remains around a temperature of 22ºC.

This region is the most visited and one of the most beautiful regions in Portugal due to its natural landscapes, history, rich culture, heritage and splendid gastronomy.

Faro is situated on the edge of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa and 30 minutes from the City of Tavira. It is considered a great destination for holidays and is an entry point to the south of Portugal by plane.

There is a natural charm that is concentrated inside the walls of the Old City. Passing through the Village Arch you will reach the old part of town. Inside you will find the 15th century Arabian Gate.

When visiting Faro see some historical monuments such as the Ossos Chapel, the Cathedral, the Third Order Church of Our Lady of Monte do Carmo, as well as some museums such as the Museu Marítimo Almirante Ramalho Ortigão, and the Regional Museum of the Algarve. Do not forget the Municipal Museum, which is inside the 16th century Convent of Our Lady of the Assumption.

If you wish to rest you can do so at Arco do Repouso, as King D. Afonso III did, or take advantage of the wonderful beaches of this city, such as Praia de Faro.
